There are some risks you should be aware of:

  • Skimmers are devices that are attached to the card slot of an ATM by criminals to capture your account information and/or your money.
  • ATM cameras can capture your keystrokes or account information.
  • Muggings can also occur at ATMs.
    • Use extra precautions at night, in remote locations and unsecured ATMs.
    • Become familiar with the ATMs surroundings and notify someone from the bank if you think something is out of place.
    • Avoid counting your money at the ATM.
  • Don't forget to collect, then properly dispose of (that means shred) any ATM receipts.
  • Ensure you take your card with you when your transaction is complete.
  • Never loan your ATM/Debit card.
  • Never write your PIN on your ATM/Debit card.
  • Protect your PIN from prying eyes by shielding it with your other hand as you type.
